A year and a bit ago I contributed to the James Maliszewski-then-Greg Gorgonmilk project Petty Gods, a collection of minor deities for use in role-playing games. There's a new edition on the way so I've drawn a new picture for it:
I don't know when the new edition is out but I'll mention it here when it is.
Great illustration - bar room brawls are such epic tableaux of comedy and violence dumbed down - a great way for players to bond with their characters and each other as a party. Second only tothe inter-party challenges of drinking, arm wrestling and brawling (although, have you noticed, a rogue in a party never gets involved - they just rob all and sundry).
ReplyDeleteMy very recent one-off game did have one of those tavern moments - totally unprepared or instigated by me, I hasten to add. It provided much belly laughing all round, but did bite into the game time - but hey, the whole point was to let my players enjoy themselves.
Great sketch - would love to see more :)
Thanks Mark, there's more on the way!
DeleteIn our recentish 13th Age campaign, one of the players decided that his character was a professional tavern brawler, so in the background of the campaign setting there was this tavern brawling league, sort of like Sunday pub football, in which each tavern sponsored its own team of thugs to go around and have fights.
It was always in the background but I hope to explore it further if and when we return to that game.
Lovely. The flying tankard reminds me of both the "Begbie's glass" scene in the film of Trainspotting and the famous airborne sausage in the title sequence from Grange Hill:

It is a little inspired by said sausage, yes!
