The pastry is pretty bad too. It has far too much sugar and a crispy, crunchy, texture that goes beyond firm (which I like) into nasty (which I don't like). The filling is quite tasty, with strong flavours of fruits and spices, but it's not worth battling past that dodgy pastry, and then the whole thing is topped off with a deeply unsettling bitter aftertaste. Not good at all. 1 out of 5. (No palm oil)

Sounds like one where you're best served cutting off the crust and eating the filling with a spoon.

DeleteHmm is it possible to construct the ultimate mince pie by taking one with the best pastry but sub-par filling, empty it, and refill it with the filling from one with the best filling but not-so-good pastry...?
