Asps. Very Dangerous. You Go First.

Indy4 starts filming in June. Yay.

Survey. Of those of you who own all three Indy films, how many of you stack/arrange them with Doom before Raiders, and how many do it the other way?

  1. Well, I went to put Raiders on, only to find that I'd arranged it so that Doom was first. But I was expecting to find Raiders in the first slot, so obviously I'm of two minds.

Luckily, they've abandoned the numbering system from the VHS releases, where Raiders was "Chapter 26" or something (they counted Young Indy), as that's a whole other level of confusion.

  2. I loathe the fact that my copy of the DVD's case retitles the first movie as Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

  3. I got them as a box set, and they came Raiders, then Doom, ten Crusade, so that's how I left them.

  4. Yes, just as they came in the boxed set, Raiders first. I like Raiders... is there some consensus that it's a bad film? In fact, I'm not sure I could order them in preference.

  5. No, Raiders is considered a cracking film; I believe it's even included in the American national film archive. It was the first released, but Doom is actually set earlier (1935 vs 1936), so some people arrange it first in their collections.

When they released the VHS collection including Young Indiana Jones in 1998ish, the 44 episodes of the series were put two to a tape, making Chapters 1 to 22. Doom was marked as Chapter 23, with Raiders as Chapter 24. So if you bought that set, you're encouraged to put Doom first.

I didn't know that Temple of Doom was set before Raiders.

  8. When I first saw Temple of Doom when I was seven or eight I thought it was contemporary and that the lack of modernity was because it was set in a remote and exotic regions. It wasn't until Raiders that I realised it was meant to be WW2. I keep them in order of release. I don't want them to make Indy 4 - everyone's past it!
