The Rehabilitation of Henry J Pym

Right, so as part of the Silver Bullets transformation into Comics Bulletin, they've set aside Tuesdays exclusively for Marvel content. And they've asked me to do a regular column, in which I bitch and moan about a Marvel character, because bitching and moaning brings in the punters, apparently. The first one is up, and concerns one Hank Pym, better known as Ant-Man. Or Yellowjacket. Or Giant-Man. Or Goliath. Or Dr. Pym...

Anyway, it's here. And "Green Day" wasn't my idea.

  1. I think that you should comment on how one scene in the 1970s took Hank from being a hero to a wife beater. So much so that he was presented as that being the MAIN part of his character in the ultimates.

  2. I didn't realize it was already up and you addressed my previous comment in it.

  4. "bitching and moaning brings in the punters, apparently."

That's a sad indictment of comic fandom today, particularly on the net.

Regarding Pym, while I agree that the whole wifebeating has been done to death, I quite like the flaws in Pym's character. From inventing Ultron through to his breakdown in the Perez run and then his nuttiness in WC Avengers, he's never been exactly stable. But that's always made him more interesting to me.

  5. I agree that it's interesting to see a flawed character, but I think it got taken too far, and all that was left of Pym in recent times was a big pile of flaws.

  6. I hated Millar's Pym (oh, yeah, I don't like Millar's writing at all), liked you article though.
